Life Isn't Fair

My yogi, Jason

Stop the presses.  I have put on a few pounds.  I weigh myself daily and usually hover around 145 lbs.  But I got on the scale this morning and weighed 149 lbs!  GASP!  My it's-time-to-do-something-drastic weight is 150 lbs, so I'm teetering on the edge.  Time to take action.

I'm glad I weigh myself so often.  I am catching the problem early.  I think I know what happened.  I was at Citarella this weekend and they were handing out samples of food to eat while you watch the football game.  They had turkey chili with melted cheddar cheese and nacho chips.  I had a few samples, then bought the ingredients (substituting pita chips for the nachos) and had it for lunch on both Saturday and Sunday.  (I watched movies and the Food Network instead of the game!) Then my friend Martena gave me some fresh bread with figs from Eataly.  I had some with butter.  It doesn't take much! Even with an exercise schedule like mine.

Even before my encounter with the scale, things weren't so nifty this morning. The alarm went off at 4:45 AM. When I reached to turn it off I knocked over my gigantic glass of water, which spilled all over my computer table and onto my pillow.

Things got better.  Briefly.  I took power yoga at 6:30 am. There was a new student in the class who didn't know what he had wandered into. During the part of class when we do headstand, Jason went to him and said this is his most advanced and difficult class. I had no idea! I knew it was brutal, but I didn't think it was advanced - full disclosure: there are poses I am too afraid to do at this point.

Spin with Linda

After yoga I took spin with Linda. I love Linda.  She is a wonderful teacher, but also very calm and gives you a great workout.  She doesn't spoil my yoga buzz.  If I went from yoga to a teacher who screams or blares the music it wouldn't work!  Linda had us do intense intervals.  We put on a lot of resistance and sprinted for 3 minute, then recovered for 30 seconds to a full minute.  This went on for 45 minutes.  My heart rate monitor said I burned close to 500 calories.

Afterwards, I took a sauna for about a half hour, had a nice steam and took a swim.  Then the "scale incident."  Tomorrow instead of my usual Pilates with Julie, I'm taking an hour long spin class with Linda.  I'll take two spin classes (and abs) with Jonathan on Saturday, spin with Court and boot camp with Jonathan on Sunday and spin with Alex on Monday morning.  I always say spin is the surest way to shed unwanted lbs.  I'll put that to the test and report on my progress.

Wish me luck!
